Karate Report September 2018

Posted on Saturday, 6 October 2018

What a jam packed couple of months, June Black belt grading saw plenty of young trainers reach their next belt level but also Sensei Liz Sheen achieved her 3rd Dan Black Belt and Jessica Craddock her 1st Dan Black Belt Shodan as well as Jai Sheen and Xenia Van Schie successful in grading to Black Belt Shodan Ho.  Well done all students for such a dedicated effort to their training.
Our September grading held in the Palms Auditorium at the Redlands Sporting Club saw a healthy number of junior and senior trainers achieve their next level.  I hope you all enjoy your school holiday break.
Our dedicated Elite Team who trained weekly with the Queensland team and at least 4 days a week together at the Dojo travelled to the gorgeous Sunshine Coast to compete in the Australian Karate Federation National Titles held at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium in August. The hard work definitely showed through with these athletes performing to a very high standard on this National stage.  Huge thanks also to those parents and SKA individuals Liz, Paris, Aiden, Jim, Steve and Nicole, who volunteered their time to help with official duties during this three day event.

  • Len Salazar – Junior Male Kumite
  • Jess Craddock – Cadet Female Kumite
  • Ben Craddock – Cadet Male Kumite

These SKA members continue to inspire our younger members through their performance and coaching during classes.  Training towards next year’s National Competition has already begun, with hungry young competitors looking to make the trek to Tasmania.
A great group of competitors attended the John Haplin Memorial Tournament held at Seikukan, Wavell Heights 19th August. Charlie, Caden, Lochie, Ben, Jai, Sabrina and Liz all competed to an extremely high standard with everyone coming away with medals and greater experience.  It was a fun day with Sensei Jacinta, Paris, Liz and Neil on hand to coach our athletes through Kata and Kumite.
During August we also held yet another successful Gladiator and beginner’s Tournament for all our upcoming competitors. A fun day was had by all.  This is a great platform to introduce our kids to the competition format, a chance for our Elite squad to show off their talents and for our junior black and brown belt students to organise the games.
With the growing number of incidences of attacks on women Shihan Rene and Ian put the call out to host a free Women’s Self Defence day at the Wynnum Dojo in July.  It was well attended and well received with all who participated coming away more confident and aware.
With classes running 7 days a week throughout the Redlands and Bayside catering to all ages and fitness levels there has never been a better time to inquire about joining. Call 3396 0980, check out our Facebook page or go to www.sportskarateaustralia.com.au
