Karate Report September 2015

Posted on Thursday, 1 October 2015

Our dedicated Elite Team who have been training with the Queensland team, traveled south to compete in the Australian Karate Federation National Titles held at the Titanium Security Arena in Adelaide in August.  The hard work definitely paid off with the following results:

  • Len Salazar
    • Kumite – Unplaced but didn’t miss the podium by much in this large group
  • Will Markhum – Kumite – Bronze Medal
    • Junior Team Kumite – Bronze Medal
  • Jacinta Gibson
    • Kumite U21 Women middleweight – Bronze Medal
    • Women’s Team Kumite – Gold Medal
  • Clinton De Bruijn
    • Men’s Team Kumite – Bronze Medal

These SKA members continue to inspire our younger members through their performance and coaching during classes.  Next year we hope to take a much larger group through.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Organising Committee (TOCOG) has proposed to the IOC that Karate be added to the 2020 line up, so fingers crossed these kids have a huge international future ahead of them.
During August we also held yet another successful Gladiator and beginner’s Tournament for all our upcoming competitors.  A fun day was had by all especially on the jumping castle.  We look forward to another jam packed Gladiator and beginner’s Tournament in October.
June and September grading’s were filled with students achieving higher belt levels.  During the Black belt grading in June, 12 year old Guy Sheen well and truly earned his Black Belt Shodan Ho with mum Liz Sheen achieving her 1st Dan Black Belt Shodan.  Coming up for their Black Belt Shodan Ho grading in November are Varun Kumar and Ewan Sheen with Paris Botella training hard towards his 1st Dan Black Belt Shodan.  Good luck boys and everyone else grading at the end of the year.
With classes running 7 days a week throughout the Redlands and Bayside catering to all ages and fitness levels there has never been a better time to inquire about joining. Call 3396 0980, check out our Facebook page or go to www.sportskarateaustralia.com.au
