Karate Report March 2017

Posted on Thursday, 23 March 2017

What an enthusiastic start to the year for Sports Karate Australia and all our students.  Classes started back in the first week of the school term with much excitement.  All our classes are continuing to see a great flow of new students both young and not so young wishing to join in the fun and fitness.

Competition season is upon us with the year starting out with the QKA State Championships.  An impressive group of students competed, with outstanding results.  This was also attended by a great support team of Sports Karate Black Belts as Coaches, Judges, and table officials.  Without the volunteers these tournaments don’t run so thank you to Clinton de Bruijn, Liz Sheen, Paris Botella, Ewan Sheen, Steve, Ian Herman, Aide n Quinn and Jim Quinn

Maysen Mitchell – Kyu grade female Children Kata – unplaced.

This was Maysen first high level competition and she performed flawlessly – we are all so very proud

Jai Sheen – Kyu grade male Children Kumite – Bronze Medal

Xenia Van Schie – Kyu grade female Children Kata – unplaced

Kyu grade female Children Kumite – Silver Medal

Black Belt female Children Kumite – Silver Medal

Guy Sheen – Black Belt male Cadet Kumite – State Champion Gold Medal

Len Salazar – Black Belt male Cadet Kata – Bronze Medal

Black Belt male Cadet Kumite – unplaced (went through to fight for bronze)

Ewan Sheen – Black Belt male Junior Kumite – Bronze Medal

Clinton de Bruijn – Black Belt male Senior Kumite – Silver Medal

We all enjoyed our Club Karate Open Day with Gladiator Kids and Beginners Level Tournament held at Hilliard’s State School on the 19 March.  This was a fantastic introduction into tournaments with great levels of participation from all of the clubs’ many class groups plus our Elite Team.

With classes running seven days a week throughout the Redlands and the Bayside catering to all ages and fitness levels there has never been a better time to enquire about joining.
